Deep In their Roots

I saw this quote on a notebook the other day and couldn't wait to see what sprang from my fingertips to illustrate it. I was very happy with what I came up with. A cute little fairy. I think I love her boots most of all. So elfin and pointy. Her wings look as if they are just about to flutter . . . or could that be just me.

I don't know if I told you or not but I also do special Baptism Commissions to help mark that special day in your loved one's life.

Here is a recent one that I did. It has a "portrait" of the little girl who was Baptised and also the nearest Temple to where they live. I include the name of the child, birthdate and Baptism Date. Also if they have a special outfit which has been purchased for the day I try to replicate as best as I can. These are one of a kind, original paintings. A Couple More for 2012

I really like the way the shading turned out on the hair of this one. I've been really practicing shading lately . People say that it was ok all along, but I do like to play and to improve, so I hope that I have somewhat.

This sweet little girl is an important reminder to each of us that as long as we do our best each day, nobody can ask anymore from us. Love the purples and the placid, peaceful look on her face.

I just adore this one. I only rarely do little boys. I love the puppy next to him, with it's little tail wagging . . . just a bit! Little boys and puppies go together like peas and carrots and you can tell that these two are very comfortable with each other. Bestest of friends I would say!

I guess I have love on my mind because Valentines Day is just around the corner. Love this little ones shoes and fancy leg warmers. Love the sentiment as well.

I tell myself this every day. It is easy sometimes to get mired down in our fears. We must always remember that we are special, each of us, in our own unique and wonderful ways. It is not being conceited to love ourselves. It is necessary . . . for if you cannot find it in your heart to think well of yourself, how can you ever think well of anyone else??? The problems come when you think TOO much of yourself.

Last Designs for 2011

Ive been rather busy in these past few weeks and am only now just getting around to posting these newest pictures of mine.

I fell in love with the Sentiment on this one and I think actually that this is the nicest one I have ever done. I'm actually kinda proud of this. It normally takes me a few days before a piece grows on me, but I loved this one right away. "Love Me" available as a print or a greeting card.

Just a closeup of the detail on that face. Don't you just love it? I do.

What is a friend. Loving this one two. Two dreamy friends, the best of friends, kindred spirit friends, forever friends. Again available as a print or a card.

That is my motto each day. I begin it with a grateful heart. I am happy just to be alive. Life is good, even in it's darkest moments. Again, available as a print or as a card.

I, too like to look at the stars and dream. Love the little bunny hanging on to her dress and her elfin boots. She is blowing stars out into the universe from her stance on the moon.

A simple watercolour I did this afternoon. A little girl sitting on a swing with a bird in her lap. The best of friends . . . they are sharing their innermost thoughts. It also reminds me of my relationship with the Saviour and my Heavenly Father. I am so blessed that I can share my innermost thoughts with them and the knowledge that I have that they always listen.

When I was a little girl I did not know this to be true. We used to sing a song in my Sunday School, called God sees the little Sparrow fall. I can remember singing those words with all of my heart . . . He loves me too, He loves me too, I know He loves me too . . . if God so loves the little things I know He loves me too . . . I sang them, but I did not know them to be true. I do now and I am grateful for that.

Having brought up three sons and two daughters, I can totally empathise with this sentiment! I now have five grandsons and one granddaughter. (Revenge, lol)

Oh, if only there was more love in the world. What a different place we would be living in, don't you think?

This little piece reminds me of when mother used to get all dressed up to go out dancing with my father on Saturday nights. She always looked so pretty and smelled really nice. Something completely different

This is something completely different I have been working on. I have done a collage/mixed media piece, using inks and washes, scrap book papers etc. Those are the Young Women's Values in the background. It takes courage and testimony to be a Young Woman in our church and to stick with the standards. It takes daring to embrace being different and to live it. The little character is one of my first characters I ever painted, Little Miss Sunshine. She looks a bit different of course as my style has evolved somewhat since the early days. It wasn't as hard to paint on top of the collage as I thought it would be and I am quite pleased with how it all turned out. Of course I will have to sell the original.

It is an 8 by 8 inch boxed canvas, with wrap around sides, nail free. Completely finished all the way around and ready to hang. Shipped with care, first class and to anywhere in the world. Created in a smoke free and animal friendly home. Contact me to find out more.

I love this sweet baker, with her retro apron and cake! Love also the words of Lucille Ball . . . the words, the apron the cake, the hair! This has a lovely 50's feel to it. Bring out the inner June Cleaver in me.

I am not sure why, but the background colours don't seem to scan in. The skin doesn't scan in the right colour either. It looks yellow and it's not yellow at all! I wish I knew how to fix that. They are a lot brighter than they look!! The Christmas cards have grey skies and snow falling, and the other two have blue skies and clouds!

Here are just a few of my latest things I have worked on in recent weeks. I'm sorry if I have been a bit lax in posting. I've been busy finishing off my second set of rubber stamps and am now working on a third!

I'll Fly Away, a boxed canvas, painted so that the front wraps around the sides and top. No need for framing.

Flowers that bloom. Just a little painting done on water colour paper. I love the nostalgic look of this.

A Walk In The Country, the same little girl but painted in Acrylics on another boxed canvas and with scenery added. This too wraps around the sides and edges so again no need for framing.

Fireflies . . . another whimsical painting done on a boxed canvas. Reminds me of my childhood and catching fireflies.

Wonderland

When I was a girl, I always loved the story of Alice in Wonderland. We had an old copy of it with the old pictures in black and white and I used to spend hours looking at them and reading the words to go along with them.

I think the very first colour Alice in Wonderland I ever saw was the Walt Disney Version.

Sometimes it's the little things that get under our skin and irritate us the most of all . . . little niggling things like somebody (who shall not be named) leaving the cap off the toothpaste, or the seat up on the toilet . . .

Oh, yes . . . these things are sent to try us . . . and yet at the same time I am cognizant of the fact that blessings also come in all shapes and sizes and sometimes the little things are the biggest blessings of all!!

Time Spent With Cats

I wanted to make something for my mom. She has a real penchant for ginger cats, as do I . . . (Don't you love those shoes??? I want a pair! Those trousers too!)

Kittens are so loveable and adorable. I don't think anyone can look at one without falling in love . . . especially when they are ginger cats . . . (I want that shirt too! I just love daisies!)

Altogether I think it's very sweet. You just can't go wrong with daisies, cute shoes and kittens I always say!

I think you would have to say that Christmas is my favourite holiday. I was always called The Christmas Kid by my family! I didn't mind. I think this little gal is a Christmas Kid too!

Just look at those shoes and stockings!! You can tell she is getting into the season in a really big way!! I wish I had some of those!

And look at that sweet little jumper and heart she is hanging on to!

Todd and I have experienced so much loss in the past year . . . my job, our home, our beloved Jess, our car . . . but still amidst all the loss there have been great pockets of joy and blessings too numerous to hold. An attitude of gratitude . . . that's the secret to a happy life!

I am finally working my way around to painting some of the sketches I did when I was on holidays in Canada in July. I just love this little girl and her balloon. It seemed to go perfectly with this Winnie the Pooh story don't you think?

This little lady has plenty of personality!

But, I think she also has plenty of character! I just adore her!

She has a sweet little face and is a little bit demure . . . but at the same time . . . you know she knows what she wants and just how to get it.

Plus I just love her dress and stockings. Sigh . . . I wonder if I could get away with it myself?

I just love this quote of Oscar Wilde's. When I sat down to paint this little girl, it immediately sprang into my mind!

I'm sure that you would know someone who makes you smile! I know lots of people who make me smile, and who bring happiness to all who know them.

People like my oldest daughter. There is nothing spectacular about her when you look at her, but she just makes you smile and brings joy to everyone who knows her.

I started painting this little one yesterday, but I didn't like the way the dress turned out. I decided to cover it with some scrap book paper and I love how it turned out.

At first I wasn't quite sure and then I covered her hat with some more paper and added a few scrappy butterflies.

And then I gave her scrappy stockings and some little pansy flowers on her shoes and . . .

I fell completely and totally in love! She has a bit of an art deco feel to her don't you think?

Someone on Facebook suggested that my drawings would make excellent cards. The good news is that I already do make some lovely cards with them . . . now if only one of the card companies would get on the bandwagon and discover them! That would be great! I can see them as unique little figurines as well. I have vision . . . it is only a matter of making them see the same vision I guess!
